Udyam Registration Online: Step-by-Step Process with Screenshots Guide (2026)

Last updated: October 2026

You can do Udyam (MSME) registration yourself in about 20 minutes, at zero cost. This guide walks you through each screen. If you are not sure whether your business qualifies, first read Udyam Registration Eligibility.

Before You Start: Keep These Ready

  • Aadhaar number, with the mobile number linked to it (for OTP)
  • PAN of the business (or your own PAN if you are a proprietor)
  • GST number, if you have one
  • Bank account number and IFSC
  • Business address and the date you started

The full document list is in the eligibility guide.

Beware: Use Only the Official Website

The only official site is udyamregistration.gov.in. Many look-alike websites charge ₹1,000–₹5,000 for the same thing. The government charges nothing.

Step-by-Step Registration

Step 1: Open the new registration page

On the home page, click "For New Entrepreneurs who are not Registered yet as MSME".

Step 2: Verify Aadhaar

Enter the Aadhaar number and name of the owner (proprietor, managing partner or director). Tick the consent box and click Validate & Generate OTP. Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.

Step 3: Choose business type and verify PAN

Select your organisation type (proprietorship, partnership, LLP, company and so on) and enter the PAN. Click PAN Validate. The portal checks your PAN and pulls your income tax and GST data automatically.

Step 4: Fill personal and business details

  • Mobile number and email
  • Social category and gender (used for special scheme benefits)
  • Business name, plant or unit address, office address
  • Date your business started
  • Bank account details

Step 5: Select your main activity

Choose Manufacturing, Services or Trading, then pick the matching activity codes (NIC codes) from the list. You can add more than one activity.

Step 6: Enter employees, investment and turnover

Enter the number of employees. Investment and turnover are mostly filled in from your tax data. Check them, and fill them manually if blank (common for new businesses).

Step 7: Optional registrations

You can choose to register on the GeM portal (to sell to the government) and the TReDS platform (to get early payment on invoices) at the same time. Both are optional.

Step 8: Submit with final OTP

Click Submit & Get Final OTP, enter the OTP, and you are done. You get your Udyam Registration Number (format: UDYAM-XX-00-0000000) on screen right away.

How to Download Your Udyam Certificate

  1. On the portal, go to Print / Verify → Print Udyam Certificate.
  2. Enter your Udyam number and mobile number, then verify with OTP.
  3. Download and save the PDF. Banks and buyers will ask for it.

How to Update Your Details Later

Go to Update Details → Update/Cancel Udyam Registration, log in with your Udyam number and OTP, and change your address, add a new unit or activity, or update bank details. There is no renewal. Investment and turnover update by themselves every year from your ITR and GST.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Choosing Trading when you actually manufacture. It can limit some benefits.
  • Picking the wrong NIC code. Choose the one closest to your main work.
  • Registering twice. One PAN can have only one Udyam registration; add extra units inside it.
  • Paying an agent or a fake website
