Udyam Registration is the government's official MSME registration in India. It is free, done online, and works on self-declaration. Most small businesses qualify: manufacturers, service providers, and (for loan purposes) retail and wholesale traders. This guide explains who is eligible, the current investment and turnover limits, the documents you need, and the common cases that confuse people.
Quick answer: who is eligible for Udyam Registration?
You can register under Udyam if:
- You run a business in India: manufacturing, services, or trading
- Your investment in plant and machinery or equipment is up to ₹125 crore, and
- Your annual turnover is up to ₹500 crore
- You have an Aadhaar number (of the proprietor, managing partner or authorised signatory)
Any business type can register: sole proprietorship, partnership, LLP, private or public limited company, HUF, cooperative society or trust.
